DAV Department of NM
Commander & Adjutant
Commander, Agnes C. Cardenas
I’m from El Prado and I’m here to make a huge difference for New Mexico’s Veterans. I have always wanted to serve veterans in a capacity that would enable them to better themselves, enrich their lives with love, compassion, community, and more than anything that camaraderie veterans need so badly. As your Commander, I will begin the process of change; that I hope will continue through young members now in need of our support. It is imperative for the survival of our organization that we strive to enrich DAV with the next generation of members that will carry us forward. DAV is an organization rich in tradition and that tradition isn’t being lost. We are doing what is needed, adding to it. Building the organization layer by layer and adding another pillar to the foundation with each new member we recruit. I ask you, as the committed membership: RECRUIT AND EMBRACE NEW YOUNG MEMBERS. OFFER THEM REFUGE AND SUPPORT, MENTORSHIP AND GUIDANCE, OFFER THEM CAMARADERIE. Help me keep this organization alive and strong. I sincerely believe in our cause, and I believe the DAV can save those veterans in need of us most.
Adjutant, Maurice R. Portillo
I’m originally from Silver City, and then from Las Cruces where I graduated from NMSU. I am a proud Aggie! I am also a proud graduate of Paws and Stripes of Albuquerque and a member of the Veteran Advisory Council. I enjoy nothing more than the company and support of my fellow veterans. I am a Past Commander of Rio Rancho Chapter 5, and it’s been my home Chapter since I joined the DAV. As your new Adjutant, I am going to embrace New Mexico’s veterans, and through our Chapters, provide those valuable services so many are still lacking. Although this State Department has suffered, the successes are equally evident. I ask you for your support as I advise our Department Officers and my fellow appointees. Your compliance with the Constitution and Bylaws will undoubtedly help this State Department to operate more efficiently and much more effectively. With more efficient operations, we can better support Chapters and you.
